Ranchers for the Hungry

Laredo and area ranchers are stepping up to the plate to help the food bank's mission of feeding the hungry by providing fresh, organic beef to feed the children in the Kids Cafés and Adopt-A-Family programs through the South Texas Food Bank's award winning initiative, Ranchers for the Hungry.









Since its inception, this donation initiative has been a "hit" with ranchers and hunters alike.  Many of children in several of our Kids Cafes have already enjoyed fresh, nutrition-rich hamburgers thanks to the generosity of several of our local ranchers. The program was initiated by Francisco "Pancho" Farias.


In the fiscal year 2012-13, 11,000 lbs. of deer meat were donated to the Ranchers for the Hungry program. Also in 2012, Ranchers for the Hungry was named Food Sourcing Program of the Year for 2012 by Feeding America at the national Feeding America Network Summit in Detroit, MI.


The program currently has three regional chapters: Webb County, Zapata County and Jim Hogg County.


Our goal is to have at least one steer, deer and/or other livestock donated each month.


Donations to help cover meat processing fees are also welcome. All donations are tax deductible.
