Cream City Magazine turns two;helps South Texas Food Bank

Cream  City Magazine is celebrating  its second anniversary with a Friday night June 22  cocktail reception at the Platinum Club at  Uni-Trade Stadium from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cream editor and publisher Fernando “Ferch” de  Haro  announced the event, “Cream Dream” A  Fight Against  Hunger,  will  raise funds for the South Texas Food Bank mission of  feeding the hungry.  It is also the first community event at the  new Uni-Trade Stadium. Tickets are $50 per couple. Admission includes a sampling of appetizers, beverages and music by the popular DJ  “Pop Rocks.”   The dress is  casual business attire.  Tickets are available by calling Cream City Magazine 753-6755 or Lisa Longoria 333-3922.

“We deeply believe in the South Texas Food Bank mission of helping the less fortunate  with the most basic of needs, which is food during these difficult economic times,” de   Haro  said. The South Texas Food Bank distributes food to 25,000 families per month in an eight-county area from Rio Grande City to Del  Rio.

“Our sincerest gratitude to Cream Magazine  for choosing the South Texas Food Bank as the recipient of partial proceeds to assist our daunting mission,” STFB director of development  Cindy  Liendo Espinoza said. Event sponsorships that include  several perks  for the event and  with Cream City Magazine  are  named in honor of STFB programs. They include Adopt-A-Family $7,500, Commodity Supplemental Food  Program  $5,000, Kids Cafes $3,000 and Emergency Bags $1,500. Adopt-A-Family  works with a donation that helps 500 needy families receive a box of groceries per month. There are 100-plus  on a waiting list. Commodity Supplemental Food, sponsored by  USDA,  includes 7,100 elderly receiving a box of groceries per month. There are 150 on waiting list. Almost 1,000 children eat an afterschool meal Monday through Friday at 15 Laredo sites.  More than 100 families pick up a box of groceries monthly on a need basis.
