How to become a Member Agency (Food Pantry)
The South Texas Food Bank, via its network of agencies, also known as Food Pantries, in a seven county area, distributes food to hungry families in each of these counties.
To become part of this network and be eligible to distribute food, non profit organizations, with a 501 (c) (3) certification can submit an application to the South Texas Food Bank for membership. In lieu of the 501 (c) (3) certification, churches may submit a Church Qualifier. Applicants must be willing to comply with the rules and guidelines imposed by U S Department of Agriculture and American Second Harvest as specified in the Agency Agreement and the USDA Agreement Form.
In addition to the Application, the Agency Agreement and the USDA Agreement, the applicant must sign a Liability Release and a Probation and Suspension Policy document.
It must also provide a list of their current Board of Directors and their 501 (c) (3) documentation. Once the application is approved and before the food distribution begins the applicant must submit a copy of the Safe Food Handler’s certificate obtained from your city health department.
Once all the documentation is submitted, a site visit will be scheduled to do a preliminary training and to check for adequate storage and suitable distribution area as prescribed by the U S Department of Agriculture and American Second Harvest.
Once all paperwork is in order and the site has been determined adequate, the application packet will be submitted to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors for consideration.
Agencies are required to do Household applications of each family to determine income eligibility.
