This past December, Laredo got a great surprise from Canadian Pacific - Kansas City (CPKC) Railway company! Their train, the Holiday Express, made a surprise visit to our community on Saturday, December 14. The Express is a train filled with lights and Christmas decorations, complete with Santa on-site for attendees to take pictures with.
CPKC also generously made a contribution to the local food bank at every single stop the train made, which, for us in Laredo, meant receiving a generous donation on their behalf. The food bank was on-site during this great event, giving out snacks, sweet bread, and information about our programs and services. On top of that, we hosted a small food drive, and community members seized the opportunity to donate over 500 pounds of food. Some even went above and beyond, resulting in over $400 in donations, allowing us to provide 4,000 meals to our community!
“The train was beautiful, and the children loved taking pictures with Santa! We hope the Holiday Express comes back next year. It was definitely a big hit! Events like these go a long way in ensuring we can provide our services to our South Texas neighbors,” said Alma Boubel, South Texas Food Bank CEO.
