The South Texas Food Bank, a member of Feeding America®, has received a new refrigerated truck and $10,000 in operating support thanks to The Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation and Penske. This donation will help deliver fresh produce and perishable foods to underserved rural communities across South Texas.
The donation is part of a broader initiative by The Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation and Penske, supporting ten Feeding America partner food banks nationwide with grants valued at more than $200,000. Stephanie Ghertner, Executive Director of the Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “Hunger remains a widespread issue that touches lives in every corner of our country. At Darden and the Foundation, we believe in taking action to make a difference.”
The new truck will increase the food bank's flexibility in reaching smaller, dispersed areas, while the $10,000 grant will support operational costs like fuel and maintenance. CEO Alma Boubel stated, “This truck will go a long way towards increasing our reach in rural counties. We’re extremely thankful for this generous donation and excited for our community to see it all over South Texas, taking fresh produce to the communities that need it most.” •
