It will be a fun night this coming Friday, November 1 as the South Texas Food Bank hosts their health jamaica.
Gearing up to celebrate 35 years of service to the community, the food bank brings back its popular community event.
The event will feature organizations that will offer a wide variety of information and services that impact not only physical health, but home wellness as well.
"The food bank is more than just a food center. We are a place that creates awareness, provides social services, promotes long-term sustainability and addresses the underlying causes of hunger, which include poverty and poor healthcare," said Alma Boubel, South Texas Food Bank CEO.
"We are very excited to have all these great organizations participate in this event and give us the opportunity to present and offer resources that are useful and will improve the health and quality of life of our community," she added.
Several community agencies, organizations, and businesses have signed up to participate, this include (at the time of this publication): The City of Laredo Health Department, Laredo Medical Center, Gateway Community Health Center, Driscoll Health Plan, Cro Cuts Corp, Molina Healthcare, Texas Roadhouse, and Texas A&M Colonias.
The health jamaica will also include a farmers mercado featuring a wide variety of seasonal produce that attendees will get a chance to take home for free. There will be food samples, giveaways, and entertainment that include a costume contest, games, and a special performance by the Francisco Farias Elementary Dance Team.
The event is free and open to the public.
The 35th Anniversary Health Fair Jamaica will take place on Friday, November 1 at the South Texas Food Bank (2121 Jefferson St.) from 5:30 P.M. - 9 P.M.
