Food Bank Holiday Event Brings Hope to Families

Our Adopt-A-Family Fundraiser, "Hope For The Holidays," sponsored by AEP and SM Energy, took place last December and was a great success! It was an evening filled with delicious food, wonderful company, and holiday cheer.

Attendees enjoyed a fantastic gourmet dinner, a wine tasting, and great music. They were also treated to a special visit from Santa Claus, who stopped by the South Texas Food Bank to take photos with the guests—all for a great cause.

Our Adopt-A-Family program is one of our most popular and personal initiatives. Individuals, families, and businesses can sponsor a family for $150 per year. During this period, the sponsored family receives a monthly distribution of 80 to 100 pounds of food. This program is a personal way to contribute to our hunger relief efforts in South Texas and to assist someone facing food insecurity. It ensures that those who might not meet federal requirements for certain programs still receive the assistance they need.

Due to the program's popularity and extensive waitlist, we created this event as a way to spread holiday cheer and assist our neighbors. The holiday season is the perfect time to come together as a community and support those in need.

Families from our Adopt-A-Family program got the opportunity to share their experiences with the program through complimentary tickets from the South Texas Food Bank on top of getting to enjoy the evening’s festivities.

Thanks to the community's support, over 230 families were able to join our Adopt-A-Family program. That translates to over 2,760 meals provided over the course of the year!

This achievement was made possible through the support of our event sponsors, American Electric Power Foundation and SM Energy, along with our other sponsors and supporters.

"We’re extremely grateful for the individuals and businesses that helped support this event," said South Texas Food Bank CEO Alma Boubel. "The community support through sponsorships, in-kind donations, and additional family sponsorships at the event was overwhelming."
