Food Bank Holiday Event Brings Hope to Families for Two Years in a Row

On Friday, December 6, 2024, The South Texas Food Bank hosted its second annual ‘Hope for the Holidays’ Celebration Dinner Sponsored by SM Energy and CPS Energy, a heartfelt evening dedicated to supporting the Adopt-A-Family program.

Since its inception in 2008, AAF has been one of the Food Bank’s most impactful initiatives, allowing community members to sponsor families in need with a monthly supply of 120-160 pounds of food for an entire year at just $150.

The fundraiser, held at our facility, transformed the processing room into an elegant winter wonderland, with elaborate decorations crafted in-house by the food bank’s staff. Guests were treated to a gourmet dinner, wine tasting, an open bar, music, pictures with Santa, and an array of raffle and door prizes. Local businesses generously contributed in-kind donations for the prizes, which included fine dining experiences, gym memberships, designer jewelry, spa treatments,  and more.

A special moment of the evening was the showing of a  video featuring Mr. Pedro Garcia, one of our AAF beneficiaries, who shared his moving story about how the program has made a meaningful difference in his life. Mr. Garcia, who was also in attendance, expressed his gratitude, inspiring all in the room.

Thanks to the generosity of attendees, with each ticket sold directly sponsored a family, the event raised over $80,000 to support families on the program’s waitlist or families who were in need of a  sponsor to continue in the program. Support raised through this event will impact families in Webb County and Dimmit County. Also, thanks to SM Energy, this program will be offered to the residents of Carrizo Springs and surrounding areas.

Special thanks to Mr. Rick Hall for portraying Santa, L&F  Distributors, and event sponsors SM Energy and CPS Energy for their invaluable support, as well as to the local businesses and volunteers who made the evening possible.

“The ‘Hope for the Holidays’ dinner was a tremendous success, and the South Texas Food Bank looks forward to hosting this impactful event again next holiday season,” said Alma Boubel, CEO of The South Texas Food Bank. “Together, we are making a difference, one family at a time.”
