The holidays can be an expensive time of year, with so many things to buy and neighbors facing difficult budgeting decisions. Being fully aware of the stressful time that our neighbors face, the food bank, with the support of several foundations, came together to provide them with a bountiful holiday meal without compromising their essential needs.
This past Thanksgiving season, the food bank distributed turkeys to our neighbors in our Adopt-A-Family and CSFP programs, as well as those who seek assistance through our partner agencies. There were also special distributions, such as our collaboration with the local VA, to ensure veterans received turkeys alongside their regular distributions. These efforts helped many families enjoy a wonderful holiday season.
Thanksgiving is all about families getting together and spending time with each other. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute and ensure that more families can enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving Meal,” said Alma Boubel, CEO of the South Texas Food Bank.
Special thanks to Tres Grace Foundation, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, and the Enterprise Senior Hunger for making this effort possible.
In total, the food bank distributed over 10,500 turkeys—equaling 162,000 pounds—across our eight-county service area.
